1. A short film that pokes fun at state security in Cuba is being secretly passed around on the communist island. Well, the film's stars knew it would never make it on to the big screen in Cuba but, as Lucia Newman tells us, they never expected it to be such a big underground hit.

2. "Good morning, I'm Comrade Rodriguez from the secret police. I'm here to install microphones."
That's the opening line of "Mont Rouge", an unprecedented underground short film circulating in cuba that satirizes how the communist state snoops on people who criticize the system. The state run media and movie theaters won't touch it.

"It was our dream that it could be screened legally, openly, but now what's happening is that people are passing it around from one computer to another on a CD, something that's surprised me favorably." says Luis Alberto Garcia, the lead actor who's widely known in Cuba.
4. Most private citizens aren't even allowed to buy computers, yet that hasn't stopped the film from becoming the talk of the town.
"It's extremely bold, something really different and valid, because it touches on a reality so powerful. Just daring to mention it here gives it merit" says Maibis, a university student.
5. Poking fun at the rampant corruption that exists in communist Cuba, the secret police agents in the film make it clear they know the main protagonist siphons off gasoline from his place of work. While one of the agents checks out the bathroom - where the not- so-secret microphones will be installed. The other offers to sell him a coveted satellite TV dish, another item that's absolutely illegal for cubans to own.
6. "The film's politically incorrect," says Luis Alberto Garcia, although he insists he doesn't fear getting arrested. The film's director wouldn't grant us an interview but has said his goal was not to criticize but to make people laugh. Not a small feat in a country where so many people are convinced that big brother is always watching. Lucia Newman, CNN, Havana.

쿠바에서 인기를 모으고 있는 언더그라운드 단편영화 "마운트 루즈"의 오프닝 라인입니다. 영화는 체제에 반대하는 사람들을 감시하는 공산정권을 풍자하고 있습니다. 물론 국영 매체와 극장에선 상영불갑니다.

"합법적으로 공개적으로 상영되는 게 우리의 꿈이었지만, 사람들이 요즘 우리 영화를 CD로 구워서 컴퓨터로 돌려보고 있다는 사실이 놀랍고 기분 좋을 따름"이라고 남자 주인공, 루이스 알베르또 가르시아는 말합니다.
4. 일반인들의 컴퓨터 구입이 불가능한 상황에서도 이 풍자영화가 장안의 화제가 되는 걸 막진 못했습니다.
"현실을 힘 있게 다루고 있는 정말 용감하고, 색다르고 타당한 영화이며, 주제 의식만으로도 값진 영화"라고 한 여대생은 말합니다.
5. 영화는 공산 쿠바에 만연한 부패를 꼬집고 있는데, 비밀경찰은 주인공이 직장에서 가솔린을 몰래 빼돌리고 있다는 사실을 다 알고 있다고 으름장을 놓으며 도청장치가 설치된 욕실을 수색하는 척하며 법으로 소유가 금지된 위성 TV 접시를 강매합니다.
6. 가르시아는 체포되는 게 두렵지 않다면 서도 "정치적으로 올바르지 못한 영화"라고 말합니다. 인터뷰를 사절한 영화감독은 정치 비판이 아닌 단순 코미디라고 해명하지만, <빅 브라더>의 존재를 믿는 쿠바 국민들에게 영화는 결코 예사롭지 않게 다가서고 있습니다.
