1. The big day is fast approaching. Bet you can’t wait. Britain’s Prince Charles and his longtime campanion, Camilla Parker Bowles will tie the knot in just a few weeks. The couple only announced their engagement last month, and memorabilia makers are rushing to turn out must-have souvenirs for the event. Diana Muriel reports.

2. When it comes to commemorating royal events, Royal Crown Derby has quite a few years of experience behind them.

“It’s for the coronation of George III in 1761.”
3. And chief executive Hugh Gibson is certain there’ll be a market for the latest in the royal event series, the wedding of Prince Charles to Camilla Parker Bowles.

“It is a royal wedding. There aren’t many royal weddings. And this one, of course, is different from previous ones because it’s a second time round wedding. But how many families haven’t got a second time round wedding. And I see no reason why we shouldn’t have the same kind of responses we've had to precious occasions.”
4. Despite that confidence, his firm’s three royal wedding commemorative items including a loving cup are only being produced in limited editions. And to achieve even that, the company is having to condense the creative and manufacturing process, which normally takes 18 months into a matter of weeks without any sacrifice of quality.
5. Although Royal Crown Derby is working flat out to produce these royal wedding commemorative items, they won’t actually be in the shops until after the event itself.
6. That won’t matter according to Steven Jackson, secretary of the Commermorative Collectors Society and avid hoarder of royal memorabilia for his small home-based museum. Jackson believes this royal wedding won’t appeal to the masses.

“I don’t get the impression nor we had any information that people generally will be buying items. I’m sure there will be one or two. But the majority of the stuff will go to serious commemorative collectors, who want to fill a gap in their sequence of royal events.”
7. Jackson estimates there will be only 20 to 25 items produced to commemorate the nuptials of Charles and Camilla. That's compared to around 1600 for his first wedding, to Lady Diana Spencer in 1981. Some of which, as his exhibition demonstrates, was not always in the best possible taste.
8. Tacky or not, much of the royal memorabilia on sale in the streets of London harks back to Princess Diana. In fact, we couldn’t find a single item relating to Camilla Parker Bowles for sale in the capital. That didn’t come as a surprise to some.
“It’s a wedding for them, not for the nation. I think it’s not gonna be a souvenir thing.”
9. And it seems not many would buy Camilla memorabilia anyway.
“No, I wouldn’t be interested in purchasing anything for the royal wedding.”
“Australia is leaning towards Republic. I don’t have much interest in Charles and Camilla.”
10. We do know of one item that royal memorabilia collectors can look forward to, though. The Walmart-owned ASDA supermarket chain is rushing out a limited edition replica of Camilla Parker Bowles’ engagement ring on conspicuous display at a recent gala evening. But you will have to hurry, while stocks last.

3. 로얄 크라운 더비의 휴 깁슨 사장은 가장 최신의 왕실 행사인 찰스 왕세자의 재혼도 분명 기념품을 사는 사람이 있을 것이라고 확신합니다.

"이것도 분명 왕실 결혼이고 왕실 결혼은 그리 흔치 않습니다. 지난번과는 달리 이번 결혼은 비록 재혼이지만 가족 중에 재혼자가 없는 집안이 몇이나 되겠습니까? 따라서 첫번째 결혼식 때와 같은 큰 호응은 없을 것이라고 생각할 이유가 없습니다."
4. 그러나 이런 자신감과는 별도로 로얄 크라운 더비는 컵 등 세 종류의 기념품만을 그것도 한정판으로 준비 중입니다. 이번 결혼은 준비 기간이 워낙 짧았기 때문에 보통 1년 반 정도 걸리는 디자인과 제작 과정을 단 몇 주 그것도 품질을 절대 희생하지 않는 범위 내에서 압축해야만 했습니다.
5. 로얄 크라운 더비 사는 전속력으로 찰스 왕세자의 재혼 기념품을 만들고 있지만 제품이 상점에 출하되는 건 결혼식이 끝난 뒤에야 가능하다고 합니다.
6. 이에 대해 기념품 수집가 협회의 스티븐 잭슨 씨는 상관 없다고 말합니다. 잭슨 씨는 집에 작은 박물관을 차질 정도로 열광적으로 왕실 기념품을 수집하고 있지만 이번 왕실 결혼은 대중적으로 별 매력이 없다고 평가합니다.

"이번 결혼식의 기념품은 사려는 사람이 많지 않을 것입니다. 물론 한 두 명은 있겠지만 대부분은 전문적인 기념품 수집가들만 물건을 살 것으로 보입니다."
7. 잭슨 씨는 찰스 왕세자와 카밀라 파커 볼스의 재혼을 위한 기념품은 20개 내지는 30개 정도로 그칠 것이라고 전망했습니다. 이에 비해 지난 81년 다이애나 비와의 첫번째 결혼은 1,600 종류가 넘는 기념품을 쏟아냈습니다. 물론 잭슨 씨의 소장품에서도 볼 수 있듯이 첫번째 결혼의 기념품 중엔 고상함과는 다소 거리가 있는 물건들도 있었습니다.
8. 고상하든 그렇지 않든 런던 상점가의 왕실 기념품은 대다수가 다이애나 비를 위한 것입니다. 카밀라 파커 볼스를 위한 기념품은 단 한 점도 없습니다.
시민들은 당연하다는 반응입니다.
"이번 결혼은 당사자들에겐 중요하지만 국가적으로 기념품을 살만한 큰 행사가 아닙니다."
9. 카밀라를 위한 기념품은 사려는 사람도 많지 않을 듯 합니다.
"관심 없습니다."
"제가 살고 있는 호주가 공화제로 기울고 있기 때문에 저도 영국 왕실 결혼엔 관심이 없습니다."
10. 그러나 수집가의 관심을 끌만한 물건이 하나 있긴 합니다. 월마트 소유의 애스터 슈퍼마켓 체인이 얼마전 만찬 석상에서 이목을 끌었던 카밀라 파커 볼스의 약혼 반지의 복제품을 한정판으로 내놓았습니다. 재고가 많지 않은 만큼 사고 싶다면 서둘러야 할 겁니다.
