1. Welcome back. The Hubble space telescope celebrates 15 years in space, but is its time now up? The ailing telescope is in need of major repairs and scientists are looking at ways to extend Hubble’s life. ITN’s Laurence Bigenti has details.

2. The Hubble telescope has orbited the earth 88,000 times, 370 miles above the clouds that normally obscure our view of the universe. Crytal clear pictures like the this one of the ‘Whirlpool Galaxy’, 31 million light years away, or of the ‘Eagle Nebula’.
3. It witnessed cataclysmic events. Remember 13 years ago? These images of Jupiter showing the black scars where fragments of Shumacher-Levy comet had crashed into the giant planet, or these astounishing images of stars being forms in distang nebulae.
4. Hubble has been a resounding scientific success. But all that could end soon. NASA says it’s now too dangerous to repair the telescope in the space though it’s been done 4 times before.
5. A only chance of reprieve is that NASA’s new boss is reconsidering the decision to close what’s become the scientific instrument of the century. Lawrence Bigenti, ITV News.

2. 허블 망원경은 구름 위 370마일 상공에서 8만 8천 번 지구를 돌며, 우주의 모습을 보내왔습니다. 3천 백만 광년이나 떨어진 월폴 은하계와 이글 성운의 선명한 사진을 전송해왔습니다.
3. 대규모 천체 변화도 목격했습니다. 13년전 목성에 슈마커 레비 유성이 충돌하면서 생긴 붉은 반점을 기억하실 겁니다. 멀리 떨어진 성운에서 별이 생성되는, 놀라운 장면도 보내왔습니다.
4. 허블 망원경은 진정한 과학의 승리였지만, 곧 위대한 역사를 마감하게 됐습니다. 나사가 과거에도 4번이나 우주에서 보수 작업을 펼쳤지만 더 이상은 위험하다고 판단했기 때문입니다.
5. 이제 남은 희망은 나사의 신임 국장이 허블 폐쇄 결정을 재고하는 것밖에는 없습니다.
