1. The recent terror attacks on London’s transit system have put a dent in the city’s tourism industry. But as Chris Burns reports, with the suspected bombers arrested, tourists are slowly coming back.

2. Through war and peace, the ring of Big Ben has been something Londoners could count on. That’s not the case with the cash register ring at Bussey's burger bar, just steps away. Lisa Bussey's family has run it for 27 years, and she says the terror bombings were a major blow to business.
'' Can you estimate how much business has gone down since July seventh?”
'' A good percentage, say half.”
3. Across the Thames, the London eye has seen its numbers of visitors drop by 25 percent since the bombings, a figure shared by a number of major tourist attractions. Though on Sunday afternoon, the crowds seemed back in full force along the Thames. Among them, David Vasquez of Houston, Texas, and his buddies from Louisiana state university.
''I'm thinking there are all these tourists on the street, it's packed today, really. It's like bombings, what bombings?''
''We’ll see, you can't let the tourists dictate what you’re gonna do in your life, I mean you gotta.”
''The terrorists, you mean.”
''The terrorists, yeah, the terrorists, yeah.”
4. Vasquez and other tourists say they're reassured by the heavy police presence they've seen. Buckingham palace has what's described as airport-like security, with body scanners. Near the palace, police searched this car, and led the driver away, though it's not clear why.
5. The dramatic arrests Friday of suspects in the July 21st failed bombings also reassured Londoners and tourists, like the Aroutsidis family of Sydney, Australia.
'' Was it a little spooky taking the buses at all?
'' No, I didn't find it spooky at all, I enjoyed it. And because they got the suspects, got caught, it didn't seem scary at all.”
6. Little comfort for Lisa Bussey.
''But you feel a little bit better after Friday's arrests?”
''Uh yeah, course. I’m sure there are so many other reasons why people aren't so secure in knowing there are still these lunatics running around.
Though the last thing she wants to do is scare off the tourists. Hard enough to make that cash register ring. Chris Burns, CNN, London.

2. 런던의 명물 빅벤은 평시든 전시든 늘 한결 같은 종소리로 런던 시민들을 안심시켜왔습니다. 하지만 버씨의 버거바에서 울리는 금전 등록기의 벨 소리는 요즘 들어 부쩍 작아졌습니다. 리사 버씨의 가족이 27년 째 운영 중인 이 버거바는 런던 테러 사건 이후 매상이 급감했습니다.
지난달 7일의 테러 이후 매상이 얼마나 줄어나요?
"한 절반 정도 감소한 거 같습니다."
3. 템즈강 반대편의 런던 아이는 테러 사건 이후 방문객 수가 25%나 급감했고 다른 주요 관광지도 마찬가지로 방문객이 줄었습니다. 그러나 지난 일요일 오후부터 템즈 강변에 많은 인파가 몰리기 시작했습니다. 그중엔 미국 텍사스에서 왔다는 데이비드 바스케즈와 루이지애나 주립대 학생이라는 그의 친구도 있었습니다.
거리에 이렇게 많은 관광객이 보이니까 언제 테러가 있었는가 싶네요.
"전 관광객이 내 인생을 좌지우지하도록 내버려 둬선 안된다고 생각하거든요."
테러범이란 말씀이죠?
"네, 테러범이요. 테러범."
4. 바스케즈 등 관광객들은 경찰의 삼엄한 경비가 안도감을 주었다고 말했습니다 실제로 요즘 버킹엄 궁 주변엔 보안 검색대가 설치되는 등 공항과 맞먹는 수준의 철통 같은 경비가 펼쳐지고 있습니다. 버킹엄 궁 근방에서 경찰이 한 차량을 수색하더니 운전자로 데리고 어디론가 사라졌습니다. 이유는 분명치 않았습니다.
5. 지난 7월 21일의 용의자 체포와 테러 기도 실패 사건 등은 런던 시민과 관광객 모두에게 안도감을 심어주었습니다. 호주 시드니에서 온 이 관광객들도 안심이 된다고 말했습니다.
버스를 타기가 무섭진 않던가요?
"전혀 무섭지 않았습니다. 용의자들이 체포됐기 때문에 버스가 전혀 무섭지 않았고 오히려 재밌었습니다."
6. 하지만 리사 버씨에겐 전혀 위안이 못됩니다.
금요일 체포 이후 기분이 좀 나아지셨나요?
"물론입니다. 하지만 아직도 그런 미치광이들이 돌아다니고 있기 때문에 많은 사람들이 여전히 불안해하고 있습니다."
하지만 가뜩이나 경기가 어려운데 그런 이유로 관광객이 발길을 끊는 건 리사 버씨도 원치 않을겁니다 .
