1. Now, for most of us, it’s an act that would seem incomprehensible, abandoning a newborn child to die. Well, a man in New York has seen it happen all too often. So he has committed himself to honoring those babies while keeping dozens more alive. Chris Huntington has this emotional story of life, death, and hope.

2. In this small plot of land at the Holy Rood cemetery in Westbury, New York, lie the tiny graves of more than 80 infants. All with the last name, "Hope.” All buried by the same man.

"Everyone of my children that are victim to neo-naticide. We bury with full honor and full honor guard."
3. Tim Jaccard calls them his children. Eighty-eight infants who died
anonymously. Over the past seven years, he has taken legal custody of
them. His goal? To give them dignity, a proper funeral and a proper burial.
4. Jaccard's mission is not only to bury babies but to save them. He's a paramedic with the Nassau county police department and director of Children of Hope, a national organization dedicated to helping mothers who are coping with unwanted pregnancies give up their babies safely. Jaccard started the foundation in 1998 after witnessing countless deaths of abandoned infants.
5. So Jaccard helped write New York state's Safe Haven law which says mothers can walk into a firehouse, hospital or police station and relinquish their baby with no questions asked and no fear of prosecution. Forty six states currently have Safe Haven laws, and Jaccard says it's making a difference.
"This is what it's about. I know that I have at least 87 babies that I've personally been involved in that are loving and have loving families."
6. Nationwide, Jaccard says Children of Hope has saved the lives of over six hundred infants. The ones they can't save, they bury and remember. Visiting the cemetery is painful, Jaccard says, but also peaceful. And a reminder that he will continue to help and care for the unwanted in life and in death. Chris Huntington, CNN, New York.

3. 팀 자카드 씨는 이름도 없이 죽은 88명의 아이들을 자신의 자식이라고 부릅니다. 지난 7년간 그는 이들의 법적 관리인으로서, 아기들이 인간 대접을 받을 수 있도록, 묘지에 묻어줬습니다.
4, 자카드 씨는 아이들을 살려내기도 합니다. 응급구조원으로 일하고 있는 그는, 원치 않는 임신을 한 여성들이 안전하게 아기를 포기할 수 있도록 도와주는 단체, '칠드런 오브 호프'를 이끌고 있습니다. 버려진 영아가 수없이 죽어가는 것을 목격한 그는 1998년 이 단체를 만들었습니다.
5, 자카드 씨의 도움으로, 뉴욕 주에선 여성들이 처벌의 두려움 없이 소방서나 병원 그리고 경찰서에 아기를 놓고 가는 것이 허용되는 법률이 제정됐습니다. 그는 46개 주에서도 시행 중인 이 법률의 효과가 상당하다고 말합니다.

6. '칠드런 오브 호프'는 6백 여명의 아이들의 목숨을 구했고, 도움의 손길이 닿지 못한 아이들은 묘지에 묻어줬습니다. 묘지를 찾을 때마다 가슴이 아프면서도 마음은 편하다고 말하는 그는 부모에게 버림받고 목숨을 잃은 아이들과 살아남은 아이들 모두를 계속 보살피겠다고 다짐합니다.
