1 You might see a little humor in this next story. You know...People who are caught looking at dirty pictures at work risk getting fired. But for some scientist and volunteers in the US, it's actually their job. They are studying the effects of sexual images on the brain. Gary Tuckman reports on what they are learning.

2. Four courageous graduate students. Brave because they have volunteered to let us witness.
"Just like you look them as if you're watching a movie and just have a natural reaction."
Their reactions to explicit sexual images. All in the name of science of course!
3. Jen Pokorny is hooked up to a skin response machine that measures sweat. This is her response when looking at a non-sexual picture - almost a flat line. But when looking at an explicit picture of a couple, her lines start to move. But compare her lines to Henry's Lange's. He looks at a similar image and this is what happens on the computer screen.
4. Now, its not revolutionary to find out men have stronger reactions to sexual images. But research here at Atlanta's Emory University, with a larger group of people, showing these pictures and others, found that much of the reason for the differences has to do with our brains.

"We found that there are very specific parts of the brain that are more active in men than in women."
5. Professor Stephan Hamann's research using MRI brain scans in addition to the skin tests has shown.
"The areas that were more active in the males were here in the amygdala, on both sides. and that central area. the hypothalamus."
And the women?
"The women. You can see in the same area, the amygdala on both sides. no activity and just very little activity on the hypothalamus"
6. There are certainly sociological reasons for the differences. But this study has shown these students and many others there are "biological" reasons too.

노골적인 성적인 이미지에 대한 반응을 관찰하는 것입니다. 모두 과학의 이름으로 이뤄지는 실험입니다.
3. 젠 포코니는 땀 분비를 측정하는 피부반응기를 차고 있습니다. 성적이지 않은 장면을 봤을 때의 반응은 화면에서 보다시피 평평한 곡선이었습니다. 성적인 장면을 봤을 땐 선이 움직이기 시작했습니다. 그러나 헨리 랭즈의 선과는 뚜렷한 대조를 보입니다.그 역시 비슷한 이미지를 봤는데 컴퓨터 화면에 나타난 선은 이렇습니다.
4. 남성이 성적인 이미지에 더욱 강하게 반응한다는 것은 새로운 사실이 아니지만, 애틀란타 에모리대 연구소에서 진행되고 있는 실험은, 이런 남녀간 차이가 두뇌 구조와 크게 관계있다는 걸 밝혀내기 위한 것입니다.

"남성의 두뇌에서 여성보다 특별히 활발히 활동하는 부분을 찾아냈습니다."
5. 피부테스트와 함께 진행된 MRI 두뇌스캔을 통해 남성의 편도 양쪽과 중앙의 시상하부쪽이 더욱 활동적임을 관찰할 수 있었습니다. 여성의 경우는 편도 부위에 활동이 전혀 없고, 시상하부에서 약간 관찰됐을 뿐입니다.
6. 물론 사회학적인 차이도 있지만, 이번 실험은 남녀간 반응차이에 분명 생물학적 이유가 있음을 입증하고 있습니다.
