1. The British website 'Friends Reunited' offers to do just that. It reunites old friends for a small fee, of course. In just five years, business has spread across the world from the UK to Australia, and is now worth an estimated 174 million dollars. As ITN's Lauren Taylor reports, demand for the site's services shows no sign of slowing.

2. We may all have gone our separate ways after school. But it seems many of us retain the curiosity about those we shared our formative years with. And that's fueled the incredible growth of one Internet site which is now a social phenomenon.
3. 12 million people registered on Friends Reunited. That's half of all UK households with Internet access. 5,000 new members register on average a day, and we spend equivalent of 4,500 years browsing the site.
4. But while rediscovering old friendships has in so many cases been a positive step, digging up the past can also be dangerous. Friends Reunited has triggered marriage breakups and other unpleasant repercussions. Steven Wiliamson logged on to catch up with old mates. Instead, he found himself falsely accused of fathering a 9 year old girl from a holiday fling, and being chased by the child support agency.
5. Psychologists say part of our obsession with Friends Reunited is the desire to compare ourselves with our peers.

"You can see whether, you know, that girl you fancied is still around you. You can see whether the guy who used to beat you up is out of a job, as you wish. Even you can see whether your average earnings are about right. "

3. "프렌즈 리유나이티드"의 등록자는 천 2백만 명인데 이는 영국의 인터넷 접속 가능 가구의 절반에 해당합니다. 하루 평균 신규 가입자수는 5천 명, 이들의 사이트 접속 시간의 총합은 무려 4천 5백 년입니다.
4. 옛 친구를 만나 좋은 인연으로 다시 맺어지는 경우도 많지만 과거를 캐는 일은 위험할 수도 있습니다. 이혼 등 일부 뜻하지 않은 부작용을 낳고 있습니다. 스티븐 윌리엄스 씨는 동창을 찾으러 사이트에 가입했다가 자신이 휴가지에서 만났던 9살 소녀의 부친으로부터 엉뚱하게 고소당해 아동보호국에 수배됐다는 사실을 발견하고 깜짝 놀랐습니다.
5. 심리학자들은 "프렌즈 리유나이티드"의 열풍이 자신과 같은 연배와 비교하려는 욕구 때문이라고 분석합니다.

"마음에 두었던 여학생이 여전한지, 자신을 괴롭히던 남자애가 예상했던대로 실업자로 살고 있는지, 자신의 돈벌이가 평균소득과 비교해 적당한 지 등이 궁금한 겁니다."
6. 졸업생은 매년 매출되고 있고 사이트의 성장세는 계속될 전망입니다.
